Kazakhstan All Set To Make Hopman Cup Debut

Kazakhstan is all set to make first ever appearance in the Hopman Cup in 2010, after winning the Asian Hopman Cup.

The duo from Kazakhstan, Andrey Gobulev and Yaroslava Shvedova, qualified for the mixed teams tournament, which is scheduled to start from Jan 2-9, by defending Asian Hopman Cup champions Taiwan in Kazakhstan 2-1 on Sunday.

They will start their tournament against the British pairing of world number four Andy Murray and teenager Laura Robson on January 4.

The 22-years-old Gobulev has won an indoor tournament in Kazakhstan just days before the Asian Hopman Cup.

Earlier this year, Gobulev has managed to reach in two finals, with his best scalp top-20 player Radek Stepanek in Montreal. Gobulev is ranked 139th in the world, however his career's best rank is 56.

On the other hand, Moscow-born Shvedova has managed to enter in the list of top 50 for the first time this year.

Currently, he has been placed at 53rd position.

The rankings for the tournament were declared last month, and the home team pairing of Lleyton Hewitt and Samantha Stosur topped the list.
