Retail sales at World Expo Shanghai Surges To RMB 542 Mln In July

According to the statement issued by the Shanghai Statistics Bureau (SSB)of China, the retail sales at the World Expo Shanghai 2010 were RMB 542 million in July this year, up from RMB 527 million registered during June this year (2010).

The bureau stated that the said growth took place mainly due to an increase in attendance and introduction of fresh products. 

In May this year, the figure stood at RMB 413 million.

According to SSB statement, “Each person spent an average of RMB 40 in the public areas at the site. Averagely, around 400,000 people visit the Expo each day. On May 29, daily sales hit a record of RMB 23.1 million.”

While talking to media, the chairman of the Shanghai Commission of Commerce, Sha Hailin said that in the next six months of this year, the Expo is likely to attract more foreign investment.

In his statement, Sha also added that, to achieve this objective, the commission has introduced an Expo supplement of the annual White Paper Environment for Foreign Investment in Shanghai.

The news from China Knowledge said, “World Expo Shanghai 2010, the world's largest fair ever, reaped a total revenue of RMB 11 billion from May to July, of which ticket sales, retail revenues and sponsorship contributed for RMB 4.86 billion, RMB 1 billion and RMB 4 billion, respectively.”
