Taiwan all set to host world indigenous media conference

The second World Indigenous Television Broadcasting Conference (WITBC) is all set to open on March 9 at the National Museum of Prehistory in southeastern Taiwan's Taitung Country.

The meeting will be jointly hosted by Taiwan Indigenous Television (TITV) and Public Television Service.

The conference aims to provide a platform to local indigenous broadcasters ti link with indigenous media outlets all over the world, and expressing the country's rich and diversified aboriginal culture and natural beauty.

While talking to reporters, TITV chief executive Masao Aki said, "This year's event will bring together nine chief executives of indigenous TV stations in various countries to discuss the development of indigenous media organizations and the challenges they face in a digital age."

"The conference, which will run until March 12, will also include a series of activities such as film screenings, performances by aboriginal people and an exhibition on global indigenous media," Aki said.

According to Aki, the efforts of different aboriginal tribes to protest the environment and to attain coexistence with nature will also be highlighted for reference by the rest of the world as a move to deal with global warming.

Meanwhile, media outlets from Australia, Canada, England, Ireland, New Zealand, Norway, Scotland, South Africa and Taiwan also took part in the opening conference which led to the setting up of the World Indigenous Television Broadcasters Network.
